One of the most common designs for thermal & process fluid vaporizers is called “side arm” heater. It sits below the bottom level of a tank and with pressure controls regulating the heater to keep the pressure on the tank, often found in ammonia systems. This design can also be used to vaporize product to pressure bulk tanks for loading or unloading of liquid product often LNG.

The Other Common Design
The other common design is to have a horizontal vessel of a suitable diameter to vaporize off the liquid and have a large vapor disengagement space for draw off. Often, the vapor will then travel to a superheater which can even be installed in the top of the vapor space of the vessel. Considerations have to be made to allow the heater to always be covered by the minimum liquid level of the vessel.
